ACTION - Organized activity to accomplish an objective. Habitual or vigorous activity; energy
You have to kick your butt into action to accomplish anything. What constitutes action? Brainstorming, planning, setting goals, phone calls, appointments. 9-5 job, your business. In addition, as a writer you must write. That one action will do more for you than any other. Much like exercising conditions the body, writing sharpens the mind. It keeps you observant of your surroundings and always searching for new ideas. What should you write?
Journals, articles, blogs, short stories, and novels.
Journals help you collect and sort out your feelings. The act of jotting them down in a simple notebook, or for the top secret thoughts in a diary under lock and key, sends your brain into solution mode. It also de-clutters your mind so you can focus on profitable writing tasks.
Articles are a distribution of your opinions and a method to educate your readers. If you interview specialists and include their wisdom as well, you gain the opportunity to learn constantly. When you collaborate with other professionals the ideas multiply.
Blogs are a tremendously beneficial canvas for a writer. You illustrate yourself as an expert to editors and agents and to businesses that may need to hire a copywriter. You also attract a global audience that can offer instant critiquing of your work in the form of comments. Visiting and linking to other blogs connects you with like-minded colleagues and drives traffic back to yours.
Short stories provide an outlet to spill many award winning script ideas onto paper quickly while you pen the big novel. if you're like me, you have a never-ending flow of book ideas. Why not execute some of them now on your blog? Preview your work so readers can get a feel for your writing style. Start building your audience so when your novel is published you already have a loyal following!
The ultimate end result for many writers. Your novel. You slave away in the early morning hours or late at night to craft characters and develop plots. It's a daunting task to reach the last word of the last sentence of the last page. But you will because the stories are in the theater of your mind and they must escape for everyone to enjoy.
Remember, putting words to paper (or screen) is your mission. We have the power to express, engage, and entertain the world if we take one simple action. Write!
How do you take action and keep yourself writing?
Stay tuned as we progress through the rest of the alphabet towards the bestseller list!
Thanks very much for taking time to visit and read my blog. I'm glad you found it beneficial. I have a good one posting this week for the letter "I" so stay tuned!
