Are there some writing tasks that you enjoy more than others? Even if your desire to live the best selling story scribe life reaches the beyond food, sleep, and all reason there are probably certain parts that you may not be crazy about. Do you find that those duties are the ones that get shoved down the ladder rungs farther and farther until they land in a pool at the end of your week?
There are no wand waving magical solutions to this dilemma but there are some crucial steps you can take that will help you hurdle over the challenging responsibilities quicker knowing the ink is a richer black on the completed side of your to-do-list. Your goal is to knock out the most difficult or most dreaded tasks first, which can be painful at first. But after you succeed at this a few times and experience the sense of accomplishment you will seek out those items that give you that feeling again. We all want repeated pleasure and to avoid pain, right? But sometimes we have to push through the pain to reach the pleasure.

Starting a blog post, article or non-fiction piece
The best way to end procrastination is to take that first leap into the project and get words on the paper. It may be a string of unrelated words and sentence fragments but keep going. Full developed paragraphs will come together in the end. There’s power in completion so get the first draft down. Then walk away, switch to working on something else and come back to it.
Part of procrastination comes from not knowing what to write about. Try making a list of topics and keeping them in a folder. Then when it’s time to write you can sift through the file and select one.
Ending the editing process and declaring your writing project complete
I have a new philosophy. Launch the flawed version rather than procrastinate on the perfect one. I never thought of myself as a perfectionist but I realized as I was working on my blogs, creating audio and video, and sales pages that I was trying to make them just right. My creative alter ego gets an artistic vision and is not happy until that image is quenched. The problem with this viewpoint is that it delays the advancement of your goals and the growth of your business because rarely is there a perfect time, situation, or launch. So get the initial one over with, then adjust as needed. Blogs and other social media are never finished anyway. It’s an ongoing process.
Battling the little gremlins living in your computer
Technology is a necessary part of the writer’s life and one that has given us more publishing power than ever before. Ideally we delegate all obligations that we do not enjoy but usually there’s a gap of time where we are doing all things ourselves. If you’re like me and feel that technology sometimes seems to be your nemesis rather than your friend set a goal to pass on all IT tasks to someone of the computer programming mindset as soon as possible so you can focus on idea development and product creation or whatever your desired specialty is. Until then move those HTML, video sharing, social media, and autoresponder duties to the top of your to-do-list. Knock them out and you’ll flow through the rest of your day with confidence and a steady stride.
Figure out why you’re putting these things off. Is it lack of knowledge in a certain area? Are you short of time, stuck in the trenches of perfectionism, or is it simply that you don’t like doing it so you haven’t? It isn’t easy but it is very satisfying to master the difficult obstacles. So kick off the day with the hardest chore and procrastination will be a distant memory.
